The Washington Arts and Culture Showcase (WACS) promotes artistic excellence, aesthetic education, and global citizenship through a professionally structured performance platform.







Susan Shields became the Director of the School of Dance once again in June of 2024. She is the recipient of the 2006 Choo-San Goh Award for Choreography, has created dances for numerous professional companies and universities. Her work appears in the repertoires of Ballet West, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Washington Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Nashville Ballet, American Repertory Ballet, The Juilliard Ensemble, Boston Ballet II, and City Dance Ensemble.

Alice Guo, the founder president of Impact Speaking Academy since 2013. Alice competed on club, area, division and district levels between 2000-2008 in various international speech contests. She also served as Club President, Area and Division governor for Toastmasters International. In 2019, Alice resigned from a comfortable corporate job at a Fortune 100 company, in pursuit of classical education for her children and students.

Calvin Evans Jr. is a composer and musicologist based in Northern Virginia. In music
composition, he specializes in chamber music, jazz, and music for visual media. He has
composed music for multiple films, television episodes, and escape room experiences across
America. He was the 1st prize recipient of the 2025 Philip Slates Memorial Competition hosted
by the Southeastern Composers League.
Every inaugural initiative requires vision, trust, and courage. We extend our deepest gratitude to the institutions, guest speakers, community leaders, sponsors, and participants who supported our earliest programs. Their belief in our mission laid the foundation for sustainable global exchange.
As participants in the inaugural Arts Showcase, student performers, instructors, and participating organizations will be acknowledged on the official website as part of the festival’s historical record.

This program is supported within the CID–UNESCO international arts network framework, and recognition records will remain available on the organizer’s official website.
Participation may serve as an artistic activity record or performance experience for students who later pursue arts-related programs.
However, the program does not guarantee or influence college admissions decisions.
The festival uses an artistic recognition framework rather than a ranking competition.
All performers will receive at least Gold Recognition, while adjudicators may grant higher recognitions based on artistic quality:
• Gold Recognition
• Platinum Recognition
• Distinguished Recognition
Distinguished Recognition is awarded only to a small number of participants demonstrating exceptional artistic maturity.
The event is designed as a professional arts showcase rather than a competitive elimination contest.
The primary goals are to provide students with:
• Professional stage performance experience
• Expert artistic feedback
• A formal record of artistic participation
• Access to an international cultural exchange platform

Adjudication takes into account each student's training stage and artistic development.

Parents and guests are welcome to attend and support the students’ performances while enjoying the festival atmosphere.
This program is supported within the International Dance Council (CID) network under the UNESCO framework.
CID is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting dance education and cultural exchange worldwide.
Support from CID reflects:
• Recognition of arts education and cultural exchange initiatives
• Collaboration within international arts networks
The festival itself is not organized or officially hosted by UNESCO.
The Washington International Arts Festival is primarily an arts showcase and cultural exchange platform.
Participation may help students:
